The PRS Journey
The onset of the global pandemic led us to develop a method of providing safer air circulation within buildings. It was clear to us that SARS-CoV-2 was spreading via airborne transmission, and that a technology able to inactivate the virus would also be a universal application against other airborne pathogens.
A group of leading scientists, engineers and business professionals teamed together to identify potential solutions and develop a working system. We knew that UVC at 254nm wavelength is an effective way of ‘killing’ all pathogens. UVC is used in water treatment and for surface cleaning, particularly in hospital operating theatres. However, it had not been considered for removing viruses in large volumes of moving gas, such as air.
Dr Robert McCullough, our Chief Scientific Officer, was able to accurately calculate the levels of irradiation required to inactivate the virus in fast-moving air, ensuring the solution would be effective across all areas of the light chamber. Prototypes were developed and refined until we had a viable technology.
Now fully perfected, the Pathogen Reduction System is the only technology in the world able to inactive pathogens, traveling at speed through the optical chamber, in a single pass. By default, the system is calibrated to inactivate Measles, which is harder to ‘kill’ than SARS-CoV-2. PRS generates enough UVC irradiation to handle viruses, traveling at high speed, in a fraction of a second. The mathematical calculations are linear, so the formula can be used for any duct size, at any velocity, of any system.

Ian Sinclair
Founder, CEO
Ian’s commercial career started in the telecommunications industry following a stint in the Royal Marines. In the late 80s he established Sinian Communications Ltd which provided IT and Telecommunications services to UK based multinational companies including UBS, Racal and Statoil. Following 25 years at the helm of Sinian he stepped down in order to pursue his passion for sailing.
In 2002 Ian was coaxed out of retirement by Bosch to run their UK telecom division, called Tenovis. Among other things, this work involved combining the large-scale telecoms and Data systems for Network Rail. In parallel to this Ian also became a Project Manager for the implementation of the UK Government’s Patient Power project.
In 2017 Healthier Lives Ltd was formed. A forerunner to PRS, it was set up by many of the current team including Ian and Dr Rob McCullough. Healthier Lives has developed a system for 365 day vertical farming using water cooled LED lights.
