PRS advises Global Commission on Healthy Indoor Air

We are delighted to announce that PRS Founder CEO Ian Sinclair will serve as a commissioner of the newly launched Global Commission on Healthy Indoor Air, an initiative led by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) to elevate indoor air as a critical public health priority and drive coordinated global action and solutions. This new Commission was announced at the United Nations and unites more than 100 leaders from 30 countries to drive global action on healthy indoor air. Announced at the United Nations during Climate Week, the Commission brings together more than 100 global leaders from 30 countries, including a former U.S. Surgeon General, global health authorities, senior scientists and researchers from leading universities as well as executives and sustainability leaders across design, real estate, technology and manufacturing.
As a Commissioner, Ian will join colleagues from around the world in developing a Global Framework for Action and catalyzing the creation of national Blueprints to strengthen indoor air quality efforts across regions. Ian commented, “Healthy Indoor air is a basic human right and I’m honoured to serve on the Global Commission to help make it a reality for everyone, everywhere. We regard poor air quality as the new asbestos, a silent threat to global health demands urgent action and while more than 90% of the world’s population now drinks safe water, only 10% breathe safe indoor air. I’m excited to bring PRS’s real-world experience to the table and deliver real results for people, the planet and economic performance”.
Healthly offices with clean air are more productive
Indoor air pollution is associated with nearly 3.2 million premature deaths annually and contributes to a wide range of chronic and acute health conditions including respiratory illness, cardiovascular disease and cognitive decline. Despite the risks and the fact that people spend 90% of their lives indoors, indoor air quality has historically lagged behind other public health and environmental priorities. “It’s an incredible opportunity to bring such an esteemed group of professionals together for an urgent cause,” added Dr. Richard Carmona, 17th Surgeon General of the United States and Co-Chair of the Commission on Healthy Indoor Air. “We’ve set forth an important agenda, and I look forward to Ian’s contributions and those of his fellow Commissioners.”
