PRS Awarded Second Patent
Within a year of their first Patent being awarded Pathogen Reduction Solutions (PRS) – a pioneering British & US technology start-up – has been awarded its second patent for its Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) System. Patent Ref: GB 2614287
PRS has developed a ground-breaking, joint UK/US- developed proprietary technology for safely and effectively inactivating airborne pathogens passing through indoor Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and other enclosed air handling systems. Harmful airborne pathogens in this case include bacteria, viruses, and mould.
The system employs high intensity 254-nm spectrum ultraviolet light (UVC) for this purpose, a widely accepted application for sanitising generally static surfaces, but through multi-patented proprietary design elements does so when the pathogen transit time is measured in a fraction of a second. Our systems are practical as either a complimentary retrofit or as incorporated in new build as part of a state-of-the-art smart air handling system, in both cases for the effective life of the building and its air handling infrastructure.
PRS Unit – London Large Office Installation
The second patent covers the proprietary safety element built into the PRS unit which prevents the escape of UVC light from the optical cavity without reducing the airflow through the cavity. The high-intensity UVC cannot bleed into adjoining ducting, protecting existing plant and materials, while ensuring the safety of occupants and maintenance personnel. This feature complements other safety features such as an automated cutoff when no airflow is detected, and a power interlock if the system is tampered with.
CEO and Co-founder of PRS, Ian Sinclair commented, “The award of our second patent is another exciting step forward in the global development of PRS. This reaffirms our position as the leader in large scale UVC-based air sanitisation innovations for commercial spaces with mechanical air handling. 2024 has seen a significant increase in more leaders in the real estate sector discussing their air quality concerns with us . Not only do the economic and environmental benefits make PRS a real, cost-effective solution for tenants and landlords alike – the market is starting to now understand that PRS is a sound investment in helping to maintain the long-term asset values of their property portfolios.”
